Doeman

Houston, TX
Houston rapper Joseph “Doeman” Gonzales has already experienced a large... amount of success within Houston’s hip-hop scene. Born and raised in Southeast Houston, Doeman’s flows are largely about his experiences as a Mexican-American man. It is no surprise, then, that his lyrics focus less on typical hip-hop subjects such as women and material possessions, and focus more on social statements and current events. The self-proclaimed “Barrio God” grew up listening to soul music and classic Motown like The Temptations, Sunny Ozuna, and Sam Cooke because of his parents, and his rap style is heavily influenced by ‘90s rap greats Tupac, Will Smith, and Big Pun. Socially, Doe looks up to people like Cesar Chavez and Malcolm X. Doeman’s influences are displayed through his musical choices in terms of his lyricism, cadence, and musicality. Read More

Robot Jones

Austin, TX
Robot was born on the Day of the Stoner, April 20, in 1994. He began rappin...g at eight years old, his first mixtape being recorded on a tape recorder that his teacher gave him. He’d get his rap name from the cartoon, Robot Jones, because he identified with the intellectual android; he, too, tutored his peers. He graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA and began on a road to taking music to the next level and, so far, he’s succeeded with each release, growing more technically sound and original with each release. He mixes, masters, and records all of his music. Robot released his debut studio album, Table 50, on December 31, 2015. It featured one of his most popular songs to date, “Pull Up (T.T.L.B.),” a rambunctious, electronic record that captured his eccentricity. The resulting wave of interest from it elevated his stature in the Austin, TX scene, enabling him to perform for the Sigma Nu fraternity at the prestigious Cornell University and then be asked to perform at the Rare House in Los Angeles. In 2017, Robot had a child and worked to find the balance between creative and full-time father. Of this, he says, “becoming a father ultimately was the most influential thing that happ Read More
