Arre! Arre!

Malmö, SWEDEN
The Malmö-based riot grrrl gang Arre! Arre! first began playing together i...n early 2014, the brainchild of singer-guitarist Anna Palmer and singer and bassist Katja Nielsen. They had a common mission; to make no-nonsense punk with a political bent and released the scintillating Word on the Street EP later that year. With the group fleshed out to a four-piece, their raucous debut LP A.T.T.A.C.K. followed in 2015, earning acclaim from the likes of Gold Flake Paint and The Line of Best Fit when it was made available outside Scandinavia for the first time in November 2018. Anna and Katja have reshuffled the band’s lineup, with kindred spirits Mattis Årestad and Totta Edlund joining on guitar and drums respectively. There’s been no shortage of material to inspire the band’s sophomore full-length 'Tell Me All About Them' in spring 2019, either; with political darkness descending on both their native Sweden and the world at large, Arre! Arre! are leading a ferocious fightback with their own incendiary, kick-to-the-face style punk. A new EP is in the making during this winter with the first of its singles expected to see daylight in March 2020. Just in time for SXSW! Read More

Biznaga

Madrid, SPAIN
Biznaga appeared during 2012 and ... don't you really know them? I'm sorry,... I feel a bit sorry about you, because it means that you should have been in a coma or something. That is why I am not going to insult you, but I do recommend that you go back to your life in the 2014, when they released their first long album, "Céntro Dramático Nacional", an exercise of accelerated and electrified folklore ash, which slipped into the top positions of the lists. After that, while you were sleeping, they toured all along that state of mind called Spain. Then, 2107 arrived and they got signed to an American label, which always gives more profile, repeated the move: got to play for bigger audiences and went overseas. Now is almost 2k20. If you are reading this, means you have left the comma, Congratulations! You must be confused, everything happened very fast. The world has changed. People do weird things, like carrying the fanny pack as a shoulder bag, or writing 2k20 instead of 2020. Do not be afraid. Do not be sad. Just stay tuned to the Big Screen and you'll understand everything. Read More

Cable Ties

Melbourne, AUSTRALIA
Cable Ties are a fierce, tense rock’n’roll trio from Melbourne, Austral...ia. Their new album Far Enough is released by Merge Records on March 27. They take the three minute punk burner and stretch it past breaking point to deliver smouldering feminist anthems. Jenny McKechnie channels her struggles into songs that resonate deeply, giving voice to feelings often buried in modern life. Shauna Boyle and Nick Brown are a rhythm section anchored in Stooges primitivism, hammering out a bedrock for McKechnie's guitar pyrotechnics and vocal wallop. The band has been committed to an inclusive feminist and political outlook since its inception in 2015, exploring issues of gendered violence, colonialism and sexual assault. Their debut self-titled album, released in 2017 on Poison City Records, was a Triple J feature album in Australia. The band toured UK/Europe in 2017 supporting Jen Cloher, and played Punk'd Festival in Berlin. They returned to the UK in May 2019 to play The Great Escape and shows with Tropical Fuck Storm and Amyl & the Sniffers. Cable Ties have supported artists such as Joan Jett and The Kills. They won Best Hard Rock Act at the 2017 Australian National Live Music Awards. Read More

Native Sun

Brooklyn, NY
What’s more American than a band of immigrants? Native Sun doesn’t so m...uch ask the question as demand an answer with their cataclysmic resistance by audio. In our time of division, the four-piece brings their personal contexts front and center, unabashedly reimagining the sound of white Americana through their (mostly) brown mouths — empowered by the will to make music against all hostility. Harkening back to a time when rock n' roll meant something, they've not only reinvigorated, but have conquered the New York music scene, selling out shows, getting shut down by the cops, and finding themselves amongst the ranks of bands like Psychic Ills, Sunflower Bean, DEATH, Wavves, Night Beats, and The Nude Party. After releasing their first two EPs — ‘Songs Born from Love and Hate’ and ‘Always Different, Always the Same’ — the band is back with their latest single “Oedipus Race”: an explosive outcry against the vicious cycle of generational racism. Petrol Girls

Graz, AUSTRIA
Petrol Girls are a feminist post-hardcore punk band, originally formed in L...ondon, with members from Austria, Lithuania and the UK. Now based in Austria, and touring incessantly, the band are strong advocates of freedom of movement, anti capitalism and intersectional feminism. They are rooted in a DIY music community that has always combined politics with punk rock; part of a counter culture that constantly challenges mainstream values like nationalism and the gender binary, and the oppressions that these ideals promote. The band first formed in 2013 for a house show that singer Ren was putting on to celebrate International Women’s Day. This feminist context was essential for the band’s formation within a wider music community that at the time did very little to encourage women’s participation. Petrol Girls are named after Pétroleuses, mythical women of the Paris commune who allegedly set fire to private property with Molotov cocktails made from milk bottles, and rejected traditional gender roles. The inspiration came from a talk on Women and Protest given by writer Laurie Penny, who loosely translated Pétroleuses to Petrol Girls. Read More

Well, the Wacos race towards the crossroads of punk and country, heedless o...f speed limits and stop signs. The collisions spectacular, loud, energizing and sometimes messy. We've seen them a three hundred and forty six times, and the Waco Brothers never fail to entertain. Subtlety is for the weak, so they've chosen the path of optimum mayhem and tomfoolery.
