A mixture that is as unpredictable as it is satisfying in which there is room for synthesisers, sitars, accordions and anime samples, all of which this heterodox musician has encapsulated on «Isla Bonita», a presentation EP released on cult-label Foehn Records that confirms Alien Tango as one of the most peculiars creators on both the UK and Spanish scenes. Big Mountain County

Rome, ITALY
Big Mountain County is a four piece wild and dirty psych rock band, started... in Rome in 2012. In just a few years the band has earned international acclaim for their European tours and participation in festivals: at Binic Folks Blues Festival (France) they were invited to perform two years in a row and at Rome Psych Fest, the press unanimously declared them “best live band 2016”. As a consequence, they sold out of first press vinyls and Gas Vintage Records (their label at the time) had to put a rush on a second pressing of their first album “Breaking Sound”. 2016 saw them embark on an intensive tour schedule and as a testament to the strength of their stunning performances, Area Pirate Records released the live album “Anachronicle”. Moreover, in 2017 they were invited at the 25th Sziget Fest in Budapest. The past year has seen them focusing their energies on writing and recording their sophomore studio album. They will be back in January 2020 for more with a second helping of sweaty, psychsexrock on their latest offering, “Somewhere Else”, out for the Italian brand new label Porto Records. A vinyl 7 inches preview has been released in May 2019. Read More

Billy King and The Bad Bad Bad is a band whose band name alone evokes a cur...iosity that lurks in the mind dangerously. Like an amalgamation of rebellion, acid-laced beach parties, and anti-establishment activism, you can’t help but recall a sensation of déjà vu; connecting each other through familiarity while forging new pathways. Austin, TX
THE BLACK ANGELS "If you're going to sing something, it might as well be s...omething important," reflects The Black Angels' Alex Maas. That ethos is the pulsing heartbeat of 'Death Song,' the Austin neo-psych rockers' first new album in four years and their most fully realized work to date. Written well before the vitriolic election cycle and the uncertainty left in its wake, these songs now form an uncanny soundtrack to our modern American climate of division and anxiety, wrapping up the personal and the political into dense layers of provocative insight. Part protest, part emotional catharsis, this is a troubled record for troubled times, and in that sense, it's classic Black Angels. "Our music has always been driven by the fear of the unknown and what's to come," explains Maas. "Growing up in Texas, in the Bible Belt, you'd have this feeling as a kid in church on Sundays that your whole entire world was just hangi Read More

“Austin is a perpetual hotbed for new and boundaries-pushing music, with ...psych-rock band The Bright Light Social Hour standing out as a forerunner.” – Yahoo! Music “Continually exhilarating” – NPR Psychedelic mood-punks The Bright Light Social Hour are known for their raving yet iron-handed stage shows, having opened for Aerosmith, Thee Oh Sees, Dr. Dog and more. 2015's Space Is Still The Place spawned a worldwide following and songs licensed for Nintendo, HBO, MTV, Fox, Ubisoft and more, ultimately leading to the band composing the theme for the hit Amazon series "Sneaky Pete" starring Giovanni Ribisi and Bryan Cranston. In creating their forthcoming epic, Jude Vol. II, The Bright Light Social Hour found making music to be a vital, cathartic process after the suicide of Alex O’Brien, the band’s long-time manager and brother of singer/bassist Jackie O’Brien. Jude Vol. II is both vulnerable and ebullient, wholeheartedly celebrating the severe joy of living while dreamily pondering the woes of love, loss and mental illness. The result promises to be a powerful, surrealist rock record both bleeding-edge and instantly classic. Read More

Calliope Musicals

COLOR/SWEAT - CALLIOPE MUSICALS Austin’s reputation as a haven for misfi...ts, oddballs, and outlaws of all stripes actually delivers when it comes to Calliope Musicals. Since their inception, they have aimed to give the middle finger to that music scene’s cult of masculinity by way of flourishing a far wider spectrum of human color. Said by the Austin Chronicle to stick out like a “sore thumb” on the city’s music scene, Calliope Musicals stands up for Austin as a frontier town for outlaws of all stripes. Carrie Fussell, formed the group while in college at UT and gathering a “misfit band of merrymakers and oddballs.” Calliope started as an acoustic-folk project (because college, right?). But as members came and went, their sound slowly evolved. Craig Finkelstein switched to synthesizers. Josh Bickley signed on as drummer, with Andrew Vizzone holding down the low end on bass. They simmered and stirred and wrote and gigged and the glorious result was, as Carrie says, a “colorful, noisy, sweaty dance party.” USA Today has noted they “make infectious pop music that exists somewhere on the wavelength between folk and psychedelia” and NPR’s All Songs Considered have gushed that the act Read More

Communicant

Los Angeles, CA
Communicant Communicant are a new 4-piece indie psych band from Los Angele...s. Lead singer/songwriter/producer Dylan Gardner used to make hyper-melodic updated Beatlepop on his two earlier solo albums, but while working out ideas for new music, he had an epiphany - he could do whatever he wanted, and what he wanted was a psychedelic rock band. The songs are long, trippy, and introspective, the production relaxed, atmospheric, and colorful. The music lifts off with the same sense of possibility that has fueled modern fellow travelers like Tame Imapala, MGMT, Animal Collective, and Crumb. After almost a year tinkering in their Pasadena, CA home studio, their debut album Sun Goes Out is almost ready for the world. In the meantime, the Memory Palace EP (out now) shows the shape of things to come. Guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, electronics, and a fantastic record collection meet studio craft and songwriting in a very high place. Welcome to the world of Communicant. Read More

The Cuckoos

Austin, TX
The bittersweet incandescent shimmer of The Cuckoos is deeply rooted in cla...ssic rock, dance club funk and neo-psych art soul, earning the young Austin band a remarkable reputation in a just a few short years. The swampy groove arising from the collision of New Wave romanticism, swirling experimentalism and loud punky guitars is somehow as perfect as it was improbable, decisively demonstrated on record and stage. Classic Rock Magazine named them #1 Psych Band to See Live. I Hate Love, the band’s debut album out this year, is a musical manifesto, and crackles with the electricity of The Cuckoos coming into their own. It’s all a result of the combustible chemistry between Kenneth Frost, Dave North, Eric Ross and Cole Koenning. The band’s first self-titled EP earned favorable comparisons to Tame Impala, Joy Division, and Pink Floyd from esteemed publications like Classic Rock Magazine and Relix. I Hate Love is rooted in their primal psych-rock-post-punk soul but broadens its scope. It’s a new signature sound, one that will appeal equally to folks weaned on essential art-rock like Talking Heads and those attracted to retro-future acts like Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats. Read More

It is self-identity which dominates Forget Your Head and has informed FRANKIIE’s approach to accepting change and continuing to grow as artists. “Everything is impermanent, nothing is forever, and so I think that’s a huge lesson in not trying to control everything,” asserts singer and guitarist Francesca Carbonneau. Meatraffle is a common chord running through the leftist brigades of the So...uth London art scene. A band you can get behind, they’re honest and down to earth, and while the world grows increasingly hostile it’s reassuring to know that there’s a group of people out there who get it, address it and want to change it. They’ve found the sweet spot between sincerity and humor, without taking themselves seriously they garner a lot of respect. Meatraffle have a self awareness, they know what it is to live in a changing, unequal society. But they know how to counteract it too, by calling it out. Pearl & the Oysters

Gainesville, FL
Florida may not seem like the most likely place for a whimsical French pop-...loving band like Pearl & the Oysters, but it makes sense since the duo of Joachim Polack and Juliette Davis moved there from France. Using a kitchen sink's worth of instruments and showing off a very light melodic sensibility, the band's first two albums were breezy and delightful space age pop. The duo met in high school in Paris and bonded over a love of Burt Bacharach and the Pixies. While studying musicology at the Sorbonne, they began working on a sound that was equally influenced by classic French Pop of the '60s, space age pop of the '50s (and its revival in the '90s by bands like Stereolab), and the inspired simplicity of Love You-era Beach Boys. While living in Paris they started recording demos of what would become their first album, but midway through they moved to Gainesville, FL so Polack could attend the University of Florida to study Brazilian music at the doctoral level. They finished their s-t debut in Florida and released it in September of 2017. A southern songwriter and storyteller rooted in the oral tradition of Corma...c McCarthy and Larry Brown, Rod Melancon’s songs are dark and detailed, and his voice — which veers between a spoken-word delivery, a croon, and a rough-edged howl — is every bit as diverse as the material it delivers. Pinkville, his fourth release, makes plenty of room for that diversity. There are psychedelic soul songs, Rolling Stones-inspired rockers, tributes to icons like Freddy Fender and Tom Petty, and a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “57 Channels (And Nothin’ On),” all captured in analog sound by co-producers Adrian Quesada and Will Walden. Taking these songs on the road through the US, Canada and Europe, as well as opening for Durand Jones & The Indications, Klaus Johann Grobe or Maribou State, has shaped and changed both music and Sea Moya - cracked open so there is space to freely evolve into something else live. Initially formed in summer 2014 in between shipping containers in a German harbor Sea Moya is now David and Elias, who love sharing their own version of Kraut Beat with humans across the globe. Imagine there was a remote place in the 70s where early Electronic music, Afro-Beat and Psychedelic Krautrock would come together… let it sit and grow there for another decade and you get the Sea Moya vibe. Or at least a tiny idea of it. Read More

Shadow Show

Detroit, MI
Hailing from Detroit, Shadow Show is a new sound in light of a new era. Sle...ek and spellbinding, the music sweeps you up into its psychedelic grooves and dazzling harmonies. Shadow Show pushes the boundaries of what can be, yet remains deeply rooted in the raw, untouchable Detroit sound.
Shadow Show started out in Detroit in a transitional time for the city, playing in the basements of battered manors and inconspicuous store fronts. Shadow Show, in its truest form, represents the love of a time long lost and the will of a time not yet discovered. A power trio of a mysterious hue, Shadow Show combines elements of 60’s garage-psychedelia into a 21st century pop-art incarnation. They project a vision to the world in their display: a spectacle of light as curious as shadow.
Shadow Show, comprised of guitarist Ava East, bassist Kate Derringer, and drummer Kerrigan Pearce, debuted in August 2018. Upon the release of singles, “The Machine” and “Glass Eye,” they made their presence known nationally and internationally before laying low during the creation of their debut album, "Silhouettes." The album will be released February 14, 2020 via Burger Records and Stolen Body Records. Read More

SoundMass

Austin, TX
What began with two bands crossing paths in the summer of 2010 and recordin...g an unplanned, improvisational record together, has now turned into eight years of intrepid collaboration. SoundMass is comprised of two outfits: Austin-based kraut post-rockers, My Education, and Utah's finest improvisational collective, Theta Naught. With a fluctuating cast of performers, the product churned out of the SoundMass machine is different every night. Gears mesh, belts whir, pistons pump, and something glorious is born. SoundMass has had a number of releases, including an eponymous record (Differential Records), a Daytrotter session, Spiritual Docking, and has been featured on SPACE ROCK: An Interstellar Traveler's Guide boxed set (the latter two on Cleopatra Records). SoundMass has captured another suite of improvisations to be released sometime before the apocalypse. Read More

TENGGER

Seoul, SOUTH KOREA
"The Seoul duo taps into devotional music's focused intensity in trance-ind...ucing pieces that draw on new age, krautrock, and folk" - Pitchfork "TENGGER's music is not simply hypnotic - their songs actively sound like hypnosis." - Stereogum "...it sounds like music designed to induce enlightenment." - The FADER TENGGER is a traveling musical family, made up of Pan-Asian couple, itta (from South Korea) and Marqido (from Japan), who create their brand of psychedelic New-Age drone magic through the use of Indian harmonium, voice, and toy instruments (played by itta) and analogue synths (played by Marqido). The duo originally started out with the moniker “10” but since the birth of their son RAAI (who joins them on tour and often on stage) in 2012, have called themselves TENGGER (meaning ʻunlimited expanse of skyʼ in Mongolian) to mark the expansion of the family. It also means ʻhuge seaʼ in Hungarian. Travel, as spiritual experience in real environments, and the sound between the space and the audience have been central themes of their works. Read More

Tres Leches

Seattle, WA
“Tres Leches put a powerful message in a good time…” Martin Douglas o...f KEXP wrote, and it is this element that Tres Leches use to create what they call survival art, using music as a resource to bring joy and creative mobility to their audience. Involving multiple languages, artistic styles (art-punk, psych, pop, cumbia, experimental) and international influences (everything from The Replacements to Café Tacvba), the band does not fit into one single label. To whit, Tres Leches’ debut LP, Amorfo translates to formlessness. The album led the band to coverage in NPR, Noisey, The Big Takeover and was reviewed by The Seattle Times as one of the best albums of the year. Tres Leches has gigged with standout groups like Tacocat, The Black Tones, The Coathangers, Los Blenders, Songoy Blues, Boogarins and Y La Bamba in addition to playing festivals like Capitol Hill Block Party, Treefort, Upstream and Timber and a filmed instudio performance on KEXP. In 2020, the band will release their latest single "Nieve" featuring electro-cumbia artists Terror/Cactus. Recorded by Kevin Suggs (KEXP), the track is an attempt for the group to stay alive once more through music. Read More

Triptides

Los Angeles, CA
TRIPTIDES is a Los Angeles based psychedelic rock group led by multi-instru...mentalist Glenn Brigman. It began in the summer of 2010 as a series of sun-drenched home recorded tape machine experiments. The band has since released six full length records and a number of singles and EPs. Their music dives through realms of sonic clairvoyance complete with melted guitars, swirling farfisa organs and vocals like sunlight through the fog. The band’s latest record “Visitors” was released in 2018 to critical acclaim, with AllMusic calling it “their best sounding record to date” and LA Record describing it as “an expansive expedition into the undercurrent of the late sixties.” From international tours to performances at Desert Daze and Barcelona Psych Fest, the band has continued at a strong pace and shows no signs of slowing down. 2019 saw the release of two new singles, "Nirvana Now” (Hypnotic Bridge Records) and "Call of Creation" (Greenway Records). They returned to Europe a summer tour including performances at Astral Fest (UK) and Plisskën Festival (GR). In September the group returned to the US and Canada for more tour dates. The band has a new record coming out in 2020. Read More

You Said Strange

Giverny, FRANCE
You Said Strange come from the north-western region of Normandy in France, ...although if it was up to them they’d come from the US, somewhere between Texas and Cali. They’ve been growing their own Norman-spiced definition of psychedelia for a few years now, making their way on a historically busy road. Just signed to Fuzz Club, You Said Strange are gearing up for the release of their debut LP, 'Salvation Prayer', out June 2018. That’s how, after a first EP recorded with in London, they ended up supporting The Dandy Warhols on their French 2015 tour. A strong friendship was born, which led them to fly over to Portland, OR to record the band’s first LP with the Dandy's guitar player Peter Holmström, something he had never done for anybody else but the Dandys. This first LP is a concoction of heady riffs, haunting melodies and bright rhythms, half-way between shoegaze and 60s psychedelia. The LP touches on the theme of belief, the kind that affects even the most Cartesian spirit; may it be superficial, spiritual, superstitious, religious or moral. This very-human interpretation of reality is meant to help those who seek to free themselves, dream or flee, that what the band is all about. Read More
